The Capybara
It is an herbivorous
animal bred in the marshy and swampy grounds, streams and rivers of
Corrientes Province in South
America. It is a very good
swimmer and it reach 80 kilograms of weight. It lives in communities of 30
to 40 exemplars which constitute a family, within which there is a male
that is the leader until it gets old; then it is
replaced by a youngster.
In hot seasons, the males fight among themselves
twice a year bearing 4 to
8 litters each time. It is a wild
animal, and because of its natural condition,
its marks and scars also appear on its tanned leather.
Its meat is very
appetizing. Its oil
has curative properties for the
asthma. Its leather
is one of the strongest by usage
but smoothest by touch. It is found in few parts of the world. One of the
most privileged areas to heave this animal and in a large quantity, is the
swampy lands of Corrientes
Province. Different kinds of
articles of clothing are made of ' Carpincho ' (
Capybara
) leather: jackets, vests, gloves, purses, bags, boots,
moccasins, belts
and wallets among others. For
its cleaning,
we suggest using neutral soaps ( glycerin ) and water without chlorine
( distilled water ),
or carbon tetrachloride diluted with three parts of pure water.-
